Timothy Guanapalan

Timothy Guanapalan

Timothy Gunapalan is a senior from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. He is majoring in Journalism with a focus in Strategic Communications. Upon graduation, Tim hopes to work in a medium to small sized advertising agency as a copywriter or as an account executive. Further down the line, he is interested in doing marketing for museums or content creation for news and media companies. In his spare time, Tim reads and watches independent media and flies his drone around to capture pictures and video of different landscapes.

“This opportunity was surreal, it felt like we were in a real advertising agency.”

Hannah Wilson

Hannah Wilson

Hannah graduated in December of 2018 with a degree in Public Relations & Advertising and a minor in Management. After graduation, Hannah hopes to work at an agency or in a corporate setting in digital communications. Hannah enjoys health and fitness, hanging out with her cat, or spending time in New York City.

“Fox Sports University gave my teammates and me the chance to put all of our skills that we have learned in our courses into action in a real life campaign.”

Sabrina Cynova

Sabrina Cynova

Sabrina Cynova is a December graduate of the University of Minnesota with a major in journalism-strategic communications and a minor in sustainability. She would love to work in the creative or strategic department at an organization or agency. In her free time, she enjoys photography, volunteering at local organizations, traveling, and spending time in the great outdoors. Sabrina cannot wait to use her passion and authenticity to create her own path in the world of communications.

Lauren Prodoehl

Lauren Prodoehl

Originally from Delafield, Wisconsin, Lauren is an upcoming May graduate who is interested in advertising and public health.  She will graduate with a degree in Strategic Communication and hopes to pursue a career in advertising or sales.  Beyond that, Lauren loves to play with her goldendoodle and travel.

Savannah Simms

Savannah Simms

Savannah Simms is a senior at the University of Minnesota double majoring in Strategic Communications and Communication Studies. After she graduates in spring 2019, she hopes to work in an agency in Minneapolis where she can focus on brand strategy, research, or public relations. When she isn’t studying or interning, Savannah enjoys attending community and art festivals, exploring the Twin Cities, and spending time with friends.

“FOX Sports University gave me the opportunity to practice the things I’ve been studying, and put my own spin on them. There were parameters that we had to follow from our professor, but ultimately, the final product and presentation was on us.”

“It’s one thing to study these things, but getting to have a sense of ownership over a real pitch that will be actually used is really exciting, and this program has helped me to realize that I really am prepared to enter the workforce after graduating. ”

Fall 2018 Project Description

Strategic Communications and Campaigns students at the University of Minnesota were challenged by FOX Sports North and Minnesota United FC to develop comprehensive marketing campaigns both the network and team could utilize to increase ratings, both on broadcast and the FOX Sports app.

 

Professor Profile

STEVE WEHRENBERG

STEVE WEHRENBERG

Steve brings more than 35 years of professional strategic communications experience to the faculty, including the last six as CEO of advertising agency Campbell Mithun. Starting in public relations, he shifted to copywriting, but then spent nearly 30 years in account, strategic and agency leadership positions. As head of strategic planning and integration, Steve created many of Campbell Mithun’s suite of strategic planning tools, many of which he uses today to teach Generation and Selection of Communications Strategies in the Professional M.A. Program. His efforts won a Jay Chiat Silver Award for Account Planning in 2008.
