Audrey Waid

Audrey Waid

Audrey Waid is a rising senior at the University of Florida majoring in Advertising. She plans to graduate in May 2020 and move back to her home state: California. She is a curious thinker and talented copywriter with a passion for travel writing and sustainability. She finds parallels in international storytelling and brand storytelling, which is where her passion for advertising was born. As the digital landscape continues to evolve, Audrey looks forward to finding her place and leaving her mark in the advertising industry.

“This experience taught me about striking a balance between going with your guts and accommodating a client. Even though we are students, we have valuable insights to offer FOX and with a little boldness, we can start a wave of change.”

Jordan Harrison

Jordan Harrison

Jordan Harrison is an advertising professional hailing from Melbourne, Florida. Jordan is a prominent fourth-year advertising student at the University of Florida who plans to graduate in December 2019. Jordan’s advertising prowess has accumulated from his years of experience working across various media and technology fields. He looks forward to continuing using his creative and strategic capabilities to create positive change that will live in the hearts and minds of all.

“Fox Sports U was instrumental in giving me a world-class experience into the advertising world. While I do have experience in different areas of advertising, the lessons I have learned in this campaign were invaluable.”

“I am so glad that a key critical aspect in the making of this campaign was diversity. Alejandro Aguirre

Alejandro Aguirre

Alejandro Aguirre is from Miami, Florida. He is a graduate student who is majoring in Mass Communication with a concentration in sports communications. He will graduate with his Masters of Arts in Mass Communication from the University of Florida in August 2019.  Alejandro was part of the Pro Master’s Track at UF which gave him the opportunity to combine his love for sports and writing. After graduation, Alejandro hopes to work for a local news network or sports franchise in the South Florida area as either a writer or a reporter. When Alejandro is away from school, he enjoys traveling with his “Sevilla Fam,” watching the Heat and Marlins games, or doing his podcast “The Lets Get It Show.”

“To be honest, I was a bit nervous in the beginning of the FOX Sports U program because I had little experience in the advertising field. However, my teammates and professor made this experience worthwhile and I’m glad I had this learning experience.”

“After a long, tough semester it felt amazing seeing the end results of our project and presenting in front of FOX Sports. I can’t express how fortunate I was to be part of Team Element and how great each member is at what they do. We all share an accomplishment that’ll always remain with us.”

Gabriella Torres

Gabriella Torres

Gabriella Torres is a recent graduate of the University of Florida’s College of Journalism and Communications. She is currently working as a project manager at Southeastern University in Lakeland, Florida. Her dream is to start a mentorship and scholarship program that supports first-generation college students. In her spare time, you can find Gabriella cooking, dancing and cooking while dancing!

“I had no idea how much I would grow personally and professionally through the FOX Sports University program. The skills I learned through this experience has made me more confident to enter the working world. It is amazing that this program is available to college students.”

Alyssa Kovach

Alyssa Kovach

Alyssa Kovach is a recent graduate of the University of Florida with a degree in Advertising. She is currently seeking a graphic design job in the Tampa Bay area. She hopes to one day be a creative director for either an agency or the marketing/advertising department of a company. Outside of work, Alyssa loves to travel, paint, and be out on the water.

“My experience with FOX Sports U has been one of the best experiences I’ve had in college. Not only did it challenge me creatively, but it also helped me realize what I want to do with my life. It’s been a very educational experience and it will forever be one of the coolest things I’ve done.”

“This year’s FOX Sports University program has been very unique, especially with our focus being the 2020 Super Bowl. I don’t know too many other 21-year-olds who can say they worked on something like this!”

“This year’s FOX Sports program really resonated with me. I’ve always been very passionate about the ocean, therefore,working on this project to help with the sustainability of the ocean and the Everglades was really easy for me to get into and come up with ideas. Not only did I get to do what I love, but I got to do it for something I love too!”

 

 

Spring 2019 Project Description

Advertising students at the University of Florida were challenged to develop strategic campaigns to promote the sustainability efforts of FOX Sports and the Super Bowl 2020 Host Committee during Super Bowl LIV in Miami, FL.

 

Professor Profile

Robyn Goodman

Robyn Goodman

Goodman earned her Ph.D. at the University of Texas in 2000. Her dissertation was “Mirroring Mediated Images of Women: How Media Images of Thin Women Influence Eating Disorder-Related Behaviors and Women’s Negotiations of These Images.” She received her M.A. in mass communications at the University of Texas and a B.J. in magazine journalism at the University of Missouri.

Prior to graduate school, she was a sports reporter and later on a feature page and Sunday magazine designer at the Columbia Missourian. After leaving Missouri, she worked as an advertising graphic designer at the Iowa City Press-Citizen. In 1995, she entered graduate school while also working in public relations at the Texas Petroleum and Convenience Store Association and soon after as a freelance graphic designer and public relations consultant on several projects including a Lawrence Erlbaum book cover and printed materials for the American Society of Civil Engineers. Her work with Fox Sports has earned her a bronze Telly and a silver regional Addy.

She has been recognized and received awards for her scholastic work and teaching including a university fellowship that is awarded to the top 5 continuing doctoral students at the University of Texas, top conference papers from ICA, AEJMC, and AMHCR, and the International Communication Association’s award for excellence in teaching by a graduate student. Her work is published in Journalism and Mass Communication QuarterlyVisual Communication Quarterly, and Public Understanding of Science.

She teaches Copywriting and Visualization and Advanced Creative at the undergraduate level.  Graduate courses include Advertising Research Methods and Visual Communication Theory and Method.

Her research interests are visual communication, health communications, and gender, race, and media.  Her current research looks at media and cosmetic surgery and emotional responses to beauty types in advertising.
