Spring 2014 Winners - Five Iron

Melanie Wright

Melanie Wright

Melanie Wright is a third-generation Florida Gator and graduated in spring 2014 with highest honors and a Bachelor of Science in public relations.

Wright has experience interning in communications roles for IMG College, the University of Florida Athletic Association, WRUF Radio and Balance 180 Gymnastics Academy, a local nonprofit.

Her interest is in sports and entertainment, particularly branding, publicity and marketing. She’s a passionate ice hockey fan and played competitively for six years.

Wright accepted a position as the program director for PRO Martial Arts, a new fitness kickboxing and karate franchise located in Gainesville, Fla., that emphasizes leadership, character development skills and bullying prevention for children and teens.

“The experience I had not only working with my classmates but also with professionals at FOX Sports as a participant in the FOX Sports U Program was phenomenal – it was empowering to see how our ideas could fit into an actual multimedia campaign.”

Matt Delisle

Matt Delisle

Matt Delisle was born and raised in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. He attended Stetson University for his undergraduate study and while he was there, Matt played four years of Division I soccer for the Hatters. He graduated Cum Laude with a B.A. in Marketing and Minor in Digital Art. At graduation, he received the Outstanding Marketing Senior Award and upon graduation, Matt enrolled at the University of Florida to earn his Master’s degree in Advertising. Matt currently serves as the Creative Director/Head Designer for Paper + Plastick Records, located in Gainesville, FL. After earning his Master’s degree, Matt would like to eventually work his way up to creative director at an advertising agency or start his own entrepreneurial endeavor.

“I want to thank FOX Sports, the USGA and UF for putting on this program and allowing us to be a part of something that was as fun as it was important. I’d also like to thank my teammates for all the hard work and great ideas they put in throughout the semester.”

Meg Konigsburg

Meg Konigsburg

Meg Konigsburg is originally from Great Falls, Virginia but graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Florida in May 2014. She received her Bachelors of Science in Advertising, with a minor in Entrepreneurship. Meg has interned for a daily deal website as well as a community magazine and she plans to pursue a career in advertising or marketing.

This was one of the most beneficial classes I have taken at the University of Florida. We were able to create an entire campaign for world-renowned brands that will actually be used—–all within our classrooms.”

Emily Vandroff

Emily Vandroff

Emily Vandroff is from Jacksonville, Florida.  She recently joined three generations of Gator family members when she graduated Cum Laude from the University of Florida in May 2014.  Emily was able to explore her love of the creative process and art through earning a Bachelor of Science in Advertising from the UF College of Journalism and Communications as well as a minor in Art History.  Throughout her time at UF, she was an active member and leader in many student organizations including Kappa Delta Sorority, UF Homecoming and Gator Growl, Dance Marathon and Florida Blue Key.  After graduation, Emily hopes to land a job at a prominent advertising agency.

“I loved the competition aspect of this project.  Being able to present in front of a real-world client in order to have our project used in a national campaign was a unique opportunity for a student.”

“This was the most fun and challenging class I took at UF and the perfect way to cap off my advertising classes.”

“It was exciting to take a well-established brand like the USGA and put the FOX Sports spin on it to highlight the new partnership and bring a fresh take to golf advertising.”


Spring 2014 Project Description

In the spring of 2014, FOX Sports U students at the University of Florida worked to design a 360 degree campaign around the recent announcement of FOX being named the exclusive home to all USGA properties, beginning in 2015. FOX Sports U students reviewed and developed branding strategies to elevate signature events, as well as the league’s presence on FOX Sports


Professor Profile

Robyn Goodman

Robyn Goodman

Goodman earned her Ph.D. at the University of Texas in 2000. Her dissertation was “Mirroring Mediated Images of Women: How Media Images of Thin Women Influence Eating Disorder-Related Behaviors and Women’s Negotiations of These Images.” She received her M.A. in mass communications at the University of Texas and a B.J. in magazine journalism at the University of Missouri.

Prior to graduate school, she was a sports reporter and later on a feature page and Sunday magazine designer at the Columbia Missourian. After leaving Missouri, she worked as an advertising graphic designer at the Iowa City Press-Citizen. In 1995, she entered graduate school while also working in public relations at the Texas Petroleum and Convenience Store Association and soon after as a freelance graphic designer and public relations consultant on several projects including a Lawrence Erlbaum book cover and printed materials for the American Society of Civil Engineers. Her work with Fox Sports has earned her a bronze Telly and a silver regional Addy.

She has been recognized and received awards for her scholastic work and teaching including a university fellowship that is awarded to the top 5 continuing doctoral students at the University of Texas, top conference papers from ICA, AEJMC, and AMHCR, and the International Communication Association’s award for excellence in teaching by a graduate student. Her work is published in Journalism and Mass Communication QuarterlyVisual Communication Quarterly, and Public Understanding of Science.

She teaches Copywriting and Visualization and Advanced Creative at the undergraduate level.  Graduate courses include Advertising Research Methods and Visual Communication Theory and Method.

Her research interests are visual communication, health communications, and gender, race, and media.  Her current research looks at media and cosmetic surgery and emotional responses to beauty types in advertising.
