Fall 2016 Winners - St. John's Winning Team

Leonardo Mendes

Leonardo Mendes

Leonardo was born and raised in the town of Mineola, New York. He attended Mineola High School and then Nassau Community College before realizing he wanted to work in sports and decided to transfer to St. John’s University. He will graduate St. John’s University in May with a Bachelor in Sport Management. He hopes to work in the communication and media aspect of sports once he is done with school in May. He has interned at the Athletic Communications department at Molloy throughout his senior year.

I will never forget the experience of working on this project, it is something that will stick with me throughout my career.

The best part about the Fox Sports U program is that it doesn’t even feel like work, the entire time I was having fun, while coming up with ideas to use in the presentation.

This project makes me proud to be a St. John’s student and to be able to represent the University with the ideas my team brought to the table is just something that will always stick with me.

Erick Wolf

Erick Wolf

Erick Wolf recently graduated from St. John’s University’s College of Professional Studies, majoring in Sport Management. Originally from Mexico, Erick grew up into a huge soccer fanatic, and plans to coach soccer professionally. After graduation, he plans to be a youth coach back home in California, and work on his coaching licenses at the same time. During his last semester, Erick interned at GENYOUth in Manhattan, where he had a great experience managing the company’s social media sites. Besides school and soccer, Erick enjoys listening to music and watching movies, as well as setting a good example for his 6 year old brother.

The best part about the FOX Sports U program was being able to think outside the box, knowing that our ideas could make a huge difference in the BIG East Basketball tournament.

Working as a group is always a challenge, but through the FOX Sports U program, I was able to work very closely with my teammates and together, we overcame various difficulties and won the competition in the end!

The biggest joy of winning the FOX Sports U competition is that I’ll always be able to look back on my college days, and feel proud about my team’s accomplishments.

Dennis McDonough

Dennis McDonough

Dennis McDonough was born and raised in Amityville, New York.  He is a combat veteran of the United States Army, earning the rank of Sergeant before deciding to pursue his education at St. John’s University. Dennis will graduate in May 2017 with a Bachelors of Science in Sport Management. He has held a summer internship with Duke University’s Athletic Department gaining invaluable experience in management, operations, and administration. Dennis plans on pursuing a career in collegiate or professional sports administration.

Working with Fox Sports University was an incredible experience, the team of marketing executives was super receptive to our ideas and nothing but encouraging throughout the refinement process.

Fox not only provided us with the technology needed for the project, they made themselves available for editing, proofing and any general questions that we had along the way. As a team we felt that Fox showed true compassion in their collaboration with St. John’s University, Samsung and the Big East Tournament.

Our project for Fox Sports University definitely ranks among my favorite experiences that I have had the pleasure of participating in while attending St. John’s University.
