Ayana Walker

Ayana Walker

Originally from Bowie, Maryland, Ayana is currently a senior at St. John’s University graduating in May 2016 with a Bachelor of Science in Sport Management and a minor in Business Administration through the College of Professional Studies. She currently serves as a Student-Athlete academic tutor at St.John’s along with working as a Intramural Supervisor in their Recreation Center. Through volunteering and interning, Ayana has gained experience in marketing, facilities and operations, public relations, and player development. After graduation, Ayana plans to acquire her Master’s degree in Sports Industry Management and in her future wants to pursue a career in public relations or player development for a sports agency.

David Adams

David Adams

David was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. He attended the Masters School which is a private boarding school in Dobbs Ferry, New York. There he was captain of both the men’s basketball team and baseball team. David has always considered himself a team player and also a leader. He always knew he wanted to work in sports and once he arrived at St. John’s University he found a home with the women’s basketball team as a student manager. He worked his way up to becoming Co-Head Manager and was later promoted to Assistant to Head Coach. David graduates this May with a Bachelors degree in Sport Management and he has hopes of gaining his MBA before entering the professional sports industry.

Fall 2015 Project Description

FOX Sports University partnered with St. John’s University Sports Management students for the first time, and challenged students to develop digital concepts and ideas to generate excitement and buzz around the sport of basketball.


Professor Profile

Katie Lebel

Katie Lebel

Dr. Lebel has been an active researcher in the area of sport media for the past 10 years, first at The University of Western Ontario in Canada, and now as an Assistant Professor at St. John’s University in New York City. She specializes in the area of social media, with a particular focus on digital image management strategies and consumer engagement. Her work has resulted in several publications related to these topics as well as consulting opportunities with both athletes and sport organizations.

Dr. Lebel teaches under the umbrella of Sport Management at St. John’s. She recently designed a Social Media in Sport course that will run for the first time this fall. She is thrilled to be a part of the FOX Sports U program and excited to work with her students on the digital strategy project we have been assigned!
