Avi Agarwal

Avi is a citizen of the United States who was brought up mostly in New Jersey and spent a few years in London. He is graduating in May of 2019 as a Sports Management major with a concentration in Sports Law. After graduating from college, Avi hopes to pursue his career in the sports industry on the operations side of a professional sports organization. He is passionate about all sports, and basketball, tennis and football are his favorites.

“This challenge prompted us to come up with creative new-age solutions like carbon credit offsets. Golf is not one of the most sustainable of sports and we had to work around that.”

“There was a moment where I was the only member of the group in support of something. Letting go of that idea and investing in my group’s plans taught me that it’s okay to change your vision — and it also thickened my skin.”

“We were fortunate enough to go to Shinnecock Hills thanks to Fox Sports and the United States Golf Association. It was an amazing experience that gave us an in-person view to compare to our vision.”


Fall 2017 Project Description

Students at the Tisch Institute for Sports Management, Media, and Business were challenged by the USGA and 21CF Social Impact to develop an over-arching messaging strategy that FOX and the USGA can utilize to enhance their existing partnership surrounding sustainability.

Professor Hollander’s courses include Introduction to Sports Management, Marketing of Sports and Events, Public Relations, Consumer Behavior, Leagues and Governing Organizations, Amateur Sports Governance, Leadership and Organizational Behavior, Emerging Issues and Fox Sport University.

David Hollander has a B.A. from Brandeis University and a J.D. from Quinnipiac University School of Law.

For years, Dave Hollander has been an author and columnist writing on sports and social issues in national online and print publications including The Huffington Post (its first sports writer), AOL Sports, (the Sports Illustrated website), Slate, and Interview ; well known for his hundreds of interviews with notable sports and show business personalities.

As The New York Times columnist Selena Roberts remarked:

“Dave Hollander doesn’t just interview sports figures. He has conversations with them that are so natural, you feel as if you are sitting around a kitchen table, talking sports and life with some of the most intriguing people. With his smart, and sometimes irreverent approach, Dave offers the thinking athlete room to think.”

Hollander writes books. He authored the critically acclaimed 52 WEEKS: Interviews with Champions! (The Lyons Press 2005), and Reluctant Hero: A 9/11 Survivor Speaks Out About that Unthinkable Day, What He’s Learned, How He’s Struggled and What No One Should Ever Forget (Skyhorse Publishing 2011). An attorney by trade, Hollander also co–authored a bestselling guide to law schools in America, The Princeton Review’s The Best Law Schools(Random House 1998).

Making his mark in television, Hollander was Executive Producer, Creator and writer for Gate D, a hip, fast-paced variety show for young fans of the New Jersey Nets on Fox Sports New York , 1998–1999 and was Executive Producer /Co-Creator of Album Covers on MTV2, featuring Dashboard Confessional, Michael Stipe, Guster and The Violent Femmes, 2004.

An accomplished live event impresario, Hollander co-founded and directed The Arlene’s Grocery Picture Show 2001-2005, the largest annual independent film festival in New York City, created 3 Farms (2002–2004) , a free not-for-profit concert series in Manhattan’s East River Park Amphitheater for which he received the 2004 NYPD 7th Precinct “Award for Community Service”. In December 2009 he produced and emceed the first-ever New York City-wide youth sports awards show: The PINKY Awards with WPIX-11, earning a special proclamation from Mayor Bloomberg’s office. In December 2012, Hollander pulled off the improbable but wildly successful Washington Heights Pinball Open, a tour sanctioned pinball tournament in Northern Manhattan featuring multiple world champions. In 2010 Hollander was appointed to the Advisory Board of The Ultimate Block Party; an international movement of educators, scientists, authors and CEO’s committed to redefining and restoring the idea of “play” in children’s lives.  In October 18, 2014, Hollander will produce the CRAZY 8 Cartoon Festival, a day/night celebration of comic and cartoon art on 8th Street, Greenwich Village, NYC.

Receiving the highest divisional award in “Teaching Excellence” from New York University Tisch Institute for Sports Management, Media and Business in 2012, Hollander continues to be a popular guest speaker with universities, conferences, corporate and community groups and has made numerous broadcast media appearances including CNN, FOX, Wall Street journal TV, Bloomberg Television, WFAN, NPR radio and SIRIUS Satellite Radio. He has advised industry leaders such as the Brooklyn Nets, New York Islanders, Hanshin Tigers, Victory Journal, espnW, and Sony Pictures Classics. In 2013, Trans Insight Corporation gave Hollander their “Distinguished Service Award” for his “consistent and outstanding dedication … to the sharing of ideas and scholarship with students and academicians from Japan … in the field of Sports Business.”
