Fall 2019 Project Description

Students at Indiana University were tasked to develop a comprehensive marketing campaign that promotes FS1’s First Things First’s content and talent to grow their presence in non-EST timezones using unique taglines, digital/social media, on-site events and new show segments and opportunities.

Galen Clavio

Galen Clavio

For the past decade, Galen has worked in higher education, serving as an assistant professor at both Indiana University and the University of Miami. He is an expert in social media usage in sport, having published numerous articles on the topic. He has served as a consultant to several organizations and individuals on utilization of Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and other platforms in relationship marketing.

Prior to entering academia, Galen worked as a play-by-play broadcaster and media relations director for a number of minor league sports teams, and as a radio station sports director. He continues to be active in broadcasting today, serving as host of the “Bracket Racket” national college basketball show on HoopsHD.

Galen has developed and taught numerous classes at Indiana University, many of them focused on various elements of sport communication. This includes a class in play-by-play broadcasting, sports blogging and social media, and content management in sport websites.

Jeremy Gray

Jeremy Gray

Gray was named Assistant Athletic Director for Broadcast Services in 2009 before being promoted to Associate Athletic Director for Strategic Communications and Fan Experience in 2014. Prior to his career in athletic administration, Gray served as the play-by-play voice for IU women’s basketball, baseball, and as the host of the men’s basketball and football coaches’ shows on the Big Ten Network. Gray has also held broadcasting duties with the Big Ten Network, ESPN Radio, and as a play-by-play broadcaster for various sports at the University of Notre Dame.

Since working at IU, Gray has helped conceive, develop, and implement the groundbreaking Mark Cuban Center for Sports Media and Technology; shaped IU’s Big Ten Student U program into one of the conference’s most effective broadcast operations; produced a Telly award winning television show utilizing a crew consisting entirely of IU students; helped increase football season and single game ticket sales; led the national award winning ‘Lets Dig In’ ad campaign for IU football; collaborated with University partners on the CASE Award winning #IUinRio Olympics campaign; helped baseball and women’s basketball set single-season attendance records; and men’s basketball consistently has ranked among the national leaders in average attendance and hosts the nation’s largest student section. Gray, an avid tennis player, also serves as the sport administrator for IU’s men’s tennis, women’s tennis, men’s swimming & diving, women’s swimming & diving, and water polo.

Gray lives in Bloomington with wife Abby and children Zoe and Jonah.
