Jenn Baluch

Jenn Baluch

Jenn Baluch is a senior at the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication, pursuing a BA in Sports Journalism. She has a passion for sports production, which comes from her experience of working the Pro Bowl. She currently works for the Arizona Cardinals in their Scoreboard Department. In her spare time, she loves to travel, hike and attend concerts. Her goal in life is to be a content producer and run camera for an NFL team or TV Network. Upon graduation she plans to travel and keep working with the Arizona Cardinals to gain more experience in production.

I really enjoyed getting to dive deeper into the upcoming technology of virtual reality and being provided with a Samsung 360 camera to make things come to life.

This experience pushed my team creatively to make something that no one else was doing.

Fox Sports let us be a part of creating something for the future in sports.

Jacob Garcia

Jacob Garcia

Jacob is originally from Turlock, California. He will be graduating in May with a Master’s degree in mass communication from Arizona State. He graduated with his Bachelor’s degree in journalism in three years. He hopes to land a job as a television sports reporter out of school, with the goal of becoming a network television sports host. Jacob’s personal interests don’t stray too far from his professional ones–when he’s not reporting he’s likely playing fantasy baseball, reading about the state of the journalism industry or training for an upcoming marathon.

Fox Sports U was an invaluable hands-on experience that complemented the curriculum of the course beautifully.

Being exposed to both cutting edge technology and cutting edge concepts was the most rewarding part of Fox Sports U. We were given the opportunity to take an abstract concept like virtual reality and apply it very specifically to the interests of the viewers of the Pac-12 Championship broadcast.

Winning the Fox Sports U competition was satisfying alone, but when it came with lasting relationships with the people at FOX, it developed into an experience for which I’m unbelievably grateful.

Shane Degrote

Shane Degrote

Originally from Bloomington, Minnesota, Shane is in his senior year at the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Arizona State University.  He is studying sports journalism and will be graduating in May 2017.  After graduation, he is looking forward to his first ever trip to Hawaii for his sister’s wedding.  Shane developed a passion for sports early in his life, playing pee-wee football and youth soccer, and decided to pursue that passion into a career after graduating high school.  When he is not in class or working, Shane enjoys playing soccer for his team, Lightspeed FC, riding his motorcycle and going to the movies.  Currently a digital producer at Cronkite News, Shane aims to build off his past experiences and become a digital sports producer for a website or newspaper.

Getting a chance to work with cutting-edge technology, while also learning valuable real world lessons from Fox Sports University, has been one of the most valuable experiences I have ever been involved with.

Knowing I got to have a hand in creating VR content for Fox Sports has got to be one of the coolest and most unique accomplishments of my college career.

Taking this class and getting involved with Fox Sports University was one of the best decisions I have made in college, not only do you learn new things but you also make connections that can last a lifetime.
