Nicole Cestaro

Nicole Cestaro

Nicole is a junior from Charlotte, NC.  She is majoring in Journalism and Mass Communication and specializing in Advertising and Sports Communication within the Journalism School.  She is a die-hard Tar Heel sports fan, and volunteers regularly with UNC Athletics in their Sports Marketing department.  After graduating with a B.A. in May 2011, she hopes to pursue a career in sports marketing and advertising.

Anna Folwell

Anna Folwell

Anna Folwell is a sophomore from Winston-Salem, NC.  She is currently pursuing degrees in Advertising and Media Production.  She is an active member of Alpha Delta Pi, UNC Dance Marathon Corporate Marketing Committee and Public Service Scholars.  She serves as the digital buyer and copyrighter for The Laughing Turtle Boutique in Chapel Hill.

Jordan Chatham

Jordan Chatham

Jordan Chatham, a born and raised North Carolina Tar Heel, is a junior at UNC-Chapel Hill’s School of Journalism and Mass Communication.  She plans to graduate in spring 2011 with a major in Advertising and minor in Art History. After graduation, she plans to pursue either a career in creative advertising or a graduate degree in graphic design.

Matt Vita

Matt Vita

Matt is a senior originally from New York.  He is pursuing a degree in Advertising and is expecting to graduate in May 2010.  He enjoys spending time with his family and friends and has a passion for music.

“The whole project was a great shift from the traditional classroom set-up.  It is something new and different that is great for us students to diversify our knowledge and experiences.”

“It’s great that we get to be a part of our campaign from once it began until the final product is ready.”

Kelsey Watford

Kelsey Watford

Originally from Wilmington, NC, she will graduate in May 2010 with a B.S. in Journalism and Mass Communication with a concentration in advertising.  She recently held an internship position with GE Hitachi.  She hopes to pursue a career at a large corporation within their marketing/advertising department.

Paige Heskamp

Paige Heskamp

Paige Heskamp is a junior from Charlotte, NC.  She intends to graduate in 2011 with a BA in Advertising. She hopes to work internationally at an agency upon graduation in a creative or copywriting role. 

 

Fall 2009 Project Description

The FOX Sports Carolinas Branding Campaign: Two UNC advertising classes developed and presented a branding campaign for FOX Sports Carolinas. Eight teams developed pitches that included creative concepts for TV, outdoor, radio, as well as grassroots web and social media applications. The students who present the winning campaign will have the the opportunity to work with industry professionals in executing the final product.

The Charlotte Bobcats/FOX Sports Carolinas Research Project & Marketing Campaign: Covering two semesters, this project incorporated student findings from a research class noting consumer trends related to the NBA’s Charlotte Bobcats fan experience. An integrated marketing communications (IMC) class will conceptualize, develop and present multiple off-channel marketing concepts to build brand recognition, drive ticket sales, and spur viewership of Bobcats telecasts on FOX Sports Carolinas.

 

Professor Profile

Dana McMahan

Dana McMahan

B.F.A., James Madison University

Dana McMahan joined the school’s faculty July 1, 2008.

Prior to coming to the school, McMahan developed and launched her own company, specializing in products for women and children. The Laughing Turtle, Inc. currently operates in North Carolina and Virginia locations and includes retail, wholesale, and internet ventures. She formed her company after more than a decade as an advertising and marketing creative.

McMahan worked as an art director at various advertising agencies, including New York’s McCann-Erickson. She served as Creative Director of Charron, Schwartz and Partners and consulted extensively with McKinney as a creative in new business development. Her clients have included L’Oreal, Tiffany & Company, GE Capital, WestPoint Stevens, ABC News and Jameson Irish Whiskey, among others. She previously taught advertising creative as an adjunct professor in the school.

She is involved in many community organizations including board memberships with SECU Family House at UNC Hospitals, and Kidzu Children’s Museum. She serves as an advisory board member for UNC Center for Women’s Health Research, and Chapel Hill Preservation Society.
