Larry Rosalez

An army brat from Columbus, Georgia, Larry is pursuing a B.S. in Advertising from UF with a concentration in dance. He will graduate in Spring 2011 and although he has no specific plans, his goal in life is to make a living expressing himself creatively by pushing the limits of advertising, art and dance.

Jessica Doren

Jessica Doren is graduating May 2010 with a B.S. in Advertising.  Jessica is from Pembroke Pines, Florida and has just completed her senior year at the University of Florida.  She has had great experiences throughout her college career from interning as an Account Manager with Saatchi & Saatchi in New York City to freelancing as an Event Producer with Toast, a bi-coastal entertainment production company, while holding the Vice President position for Ad Society, a college chapter of the American Advertising Federation, to name a few. After graduation Jessica has the goal to begin her journey into the advertising and events industry where she can apply her passion for engaging consumers and moving brands forward. She truly appreciated the opportunity to develop a campaign for the SEC because it helped her explore deeper into her creative side and challenged her to create a campaign that was not only engaging but memorable for consumers.

Jamie Daigle

Jamie Daigle

Jamie Daigle is expected to graduate in May 2011 with a B.S. in advertising. Jamie is from Deerfield Beach, Florida and has just wrapped up his junior year at the University of Florida. He is very involved within the College of Journalism and Communications and is currently serving as President of Ad Society, UF’s college chapter of the American Advertising Federation. Jamie is excited to begin his summer internship with Saatchi & Saatchi in New York City where he will be working in the Account Management Department. He enjoyed working on the SEC campaign because it allowed him to further explore the creative side of advertising and work with his team to fully develop an engaging campaign.

I was born on Long Island in New York and moved to West Palm Beach West when I was 13 years old. After graduation I plan on landing a job to kickoff my career in a creative industry.

“I loved having the opportunity to create a concept that will actually be put into execution.  It is a cool feeling to be able to produce creative content for a big name such as the SEC and SunSports.”

Darrell Stevens

Darrell Stevens

Darrell Stevens Jr is from Miramar, Florida. He is an advertising major with an outside concentration in Business Administration. He will graduate in May 2011 and plans to pursue a career as an art director. His passion for design and advertising lies in his quest to make tangible connections between seemingly disparate concepts. Since high-school, Darrell has utilized his talents to serve his local community and organizations outside of Florida. He has won several Student Addy awards and is currently the arts and layout director of UF Homecoming 2010 and the largest student-run pep rally in the world, Gator Growl 2010.

Originally from Oakland, Maine, Kaitlin will graduate from UF in the Spring of 2010 with a B.S. in Advertising and a minor in Business Administration. Upon graduation, she plans to either pursue a job in the advertising industry or continue on to graduate school.

Originally from Coconut Creek, Florida, Shane will be graduating this spring from the University of Florida with a B.S. in Advertising. This fall, he will be pursuing a Master of Fine Arts degree in Graphic Design. His goal is the continuing pursuit of a multi-faceted, ever-evolving career rooted in creativity.

Originally from Fort Walton Beach, FL, Christina will graduate in the Spring of 2010 with a B.S. of Advertising and B.A. of Sociology from the University of Florida. After graduation, it is her ultimate goal to work at an advertising agency in either account planning or the creative department. Christina’s previous experience has included working with Creative University on last year’s Breakfast with the Gators campaign.

Kayla Griffin

Kayla Griffin graduated in May 2010 with a B.S. in advertising. Originally from Stuart Florida, Kayla is excited about graduation and moving to a big city to pursue a career in advertising. Her eventual goal is to work as an account executive in a large agency. Kayla loves advertising because it combines her strengths; writing, creativity and synthesizing skills. She is proud to have worked on the SEC campaign as it has shown her first hand the creativity that results from people working together.

I am from Palm Beach Gardens, FL., following graduation I am planning on either living in South Florida and working for an advertising agency or staying in Gainesville for another year to obtain a Master’s of Science in Entrepreneurship.

Spring 2010 Project Description

SUN Sports teamed up with The University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications’ Department of Advertising, to create a marketing/branding campaign in support of SEC Basketball. A group of 11 students developed the “Born to be SEC” multiplatform concept, which emerged as the winning project. This multi-media marketing campaign incorporating TV spots, outdoor advertising, and print ads launched in the Fall of 2010.

 

Professor Profile

Robyn Goodman

Robyn Goodman

Goodman earned her Ph.D. at the University of Texas in 2000. Her dissertation was “Mirroring Mediated Images of Women: How Media Images of Thin Women Influence Eating Disorder-Related Behaviors and Women’s Negotiations of These Images.” She received her M.A. in mass communications at the University of Texas and a B.J. in magazine journalism at the University of Missouri.

Prior to graduate school, she was a sports reporter and later on a feature page and Sunday magazine designer at the Columbia Missourian. After leaving Missouri, she worked as an advertising graphic designer at the Iowa City Press-Citizen. In 1995, she entered graduate school while also working in public relations at the Texas Petroleum and Convenience Store Association and soon after as a freelance graphic designer and public relations consultant on several projects including a Lawrence Erlbaum book cover and printed materials for the American Society of Civil Engineers. Her work with Fox Sports has earned her a bronze Telly and a silver regional Addy.

She has been recognized and received awards for her scholastic work and teaching including a university fellowship that is awarded to the top 5 continuing doctoral students at the University of Texas, top conference papers from ICA, AEJMC, and AMHCR, and the International Communication Association’s award for excellence in teaching by a graduate student. Her work is published in Journalism and Mass Communication Quarterly, Visual Communication Quarterly, and Public Understanding of Science.

She teaches Copywriting and Visualization and Advanced Creative at the undergraduate level.  Graduate courses include Advertising Research Methods and Visual Communication Theory and Method.

Her research interests are visual communication, health communications, and gender, race, and media.  Her current research looks at media and cosmetic surgery and emotional responses to beauty types in advertising.
