Thomas Fisher

Thomas Fisher

Thomas was born and raised in Glen Oaks, New York. He attended St. Francis Prep High School, and discovered his passion for sports and business. He is currently a Junior at St. John’s University majoring in Sport Management and minoring in Business Administration. He plans on graduating in May of 2018, and start working with New York Life in June. Besides his interest in sports, Thomas wants to travel and keep an open mind to trying new things.

Working with such a big name company like Fox Sports was a once in a life time opportunity that I am so glad I took advantage of!

Working with Fox Sports University, was like getting a taste of the real world in college and it was great to see what is expected from you by professionals.

Winning this challenge was amazing in so many ways, and gave me the confidence to talk to my superiors about different outside the box ideas.

Hongjie Chen

Hongjie Chen

Hongjie was born and raised in China. He moved to New York six years ago. He is a junior and major in Sport Management. Growing up as a soccer fan, he always has a dream working for professional soccer club. In the future, he plans on pursuing a career on video production. He is working as a video intern at New York City Football club. In the Future, he plans to be a video producer for the soccer club.

It was a incredible experience working with Fox Sports University, I have so much unforgettable memories working with my teammates.

Winning Fox Sports University was definitely one of my highest accomplishment in my four-year college life. I really enjoyed working with my team, and we all learned and supported each other.

Fox Sports University has provided St. John’s students a unique opportunity to work on professional marketing project. It helps students like me, to have a better understanding of sport marketing.

James Bailey III

James Bailey III

James Bailey III was born and raised in Elmont, New York. He attended Elmont Memorial High School and then the University of Pittsburgh before he realized he wanted to work in sports and decided to transfer to St. John’s University. He will graduate from St. John’s University in May with a Bachelor in Sport Management and a Certificate in Communications. He currently interns with FOX Sports Public Relations Team in their New York City offices. He aspires to have a career in the Sport and Entertainment field as a talent agent.

The FOX Sports U Program offered a unique class course that allow students to work collaboratively to think outside the box, knowing that our ideas can be implanted for the Shinnecock Hills US Open.

The FOX Sports U On-Site Managers made themselves avabile for editing, proofing and any general questions that we had along the way. They always gave relevant feedback and showed true attention to detail to help you whenever they could.

The biggest joy was finding out that my team was selected as the FOX Sports U Competition winners. I will always be able to look back and feel accomplished to be recognized for my team’s hard work.

 

Fall 2017 Project Description

Sport Management students in the College of Professional Studies were challenged by FOX Sports Marketing team to generate an integrated marketing campaign for the 2018 U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills.

 

Professor Profile

Alanna Harman

Alanna Harman

Dr. Harman is an active researcher in the area of sport media and organizational behaviour. She began her research at The University of Western Ontario in Canada, and is now an Assistant Professor at St. John’s University in New York City. She specializes in the area of social media, with particular focus on athlete presentation and management strategies, and the portrayal of female athletes in sport media. Her work has resulted in several publications and presentations related to those topics.
