Marissa Churchill

Marissa Churchill

Marissa Churchill is a senior at Indiana University majoring in Journalism and minoring in Sports Marketing & Management. Her degree will have specializations in Adverting, Public Relations, and in Graphic Design. Upon her graduation, she would like to pursue a career as a graphic designer at either and an advertising agency or for a sports organization.

Marissa currently works at the Indiana Daily Student as a Creative Marketing Designer where she designs ads and creates campaigns for the organization. In addition to her job at the IDS, Marissa is a member of the Women’s Lacrosse team. She has been a 3 year captain and serves as a VP on her team’s administrative board. Marissa is also an avid Cincinnati sports fan and in her free time, loves going to Reds and Bengals games.

“There is nothing quite like the FOX Sports U experience. Being able to see this project from start to finish has been one of my bigger accomplishments in my college career.”

Karley Marotta

Karley Marotta

Karley Marotta is a sophomore at Indiana University. She is majoring in Sports Broadcast/Communication and minoring in Marketing. She plans to graduate in May of 2017. In the future, Karley aspires to become a sideline reporter. This has been her dream job since she was young, and she continues to develop the skills she needs to reach this goal. This summer she will be interning with WISN-12 in Milwaukee and next year she will be an Assistant Director for Indiana Student Television. Karley is very family oriented. One of her favorite activities is taking family vacations.  Lastly, she not only enjoys reporting on sports, but she enjoys playing as well. Soccer and basketball are two of her favorite sports in which she plays frequently during her free time.

John Romanucci

John Romanucci

John is from Barrington, Illinois. He attended St. Viator High School where he played on the tennis team for four years. After graduating high school, John went on to attend Indiana University where he studied Sports Marketing and Management along with Business. Through many different sport related courses, John learned much about the sport industry and aims to work in either a professional front office or for an agency. He is graduating this May and looking to start his career in the sport industry. Even though John has very ambitious career goals, he still puts his friends and family first.

“This project was a really awesome way to apply my creativity to solve a legitimate issue”

“Being able to hear feedback from the organization we are helping was really encouraging. It drove our group to work our hardest because we knew that our work would actually be seen Fox Sports.”

Stephanie Stremplewski

Stephanie Stremplewski

Stephanie Stremplewski is a junior from Dyer, Indiana majoring in broadcast journalism at Indiana University. She is the vice president of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists at IU and also serves as a journalism ambassador. She’s interested in pursuing a career in sports journalism and hopes to have a career in Chicago. In 2014, she interned for the Chicago Sun-Times where she interviewed super star athletes Derek Jeter and Paul Konerko, and various Chicago Bears players. Her personal interests include going to Chicago White Sox games, playing the guitar, and songwriting. She is very excited to start her internship with FOX Sports in summer 2015.

“The experience gave me a real life perspective that ultimately led to an internship with FOX Sports University this summer.”

“In the beginning of the year, you say to yourself, ‘it would be really cool if my group and I won the case project’ and then a few short months later, it happens. It was incredible.”

“Being a year away from entering the real world, it was awesome to collaborate on real life ideas that a major sports network could potentially use. I felt like I actually worked for FOX Sports.”

 

Joe Aronson

Joe Aronson

Joe Aronson is a sophomore at Indiana University, Bloomington, originally from Rochester, New York. He is majoring in Sport Communication Broadcast and minoring in both Marketing and Telecommunications. Upon graduating, Joe plans to attend graduate school and pursue a master’s degree in Sport Marketing and Management. As for Joe’s career goals, he plans on being involved in the front office of a major league sports organization. Joe has always had a passion for sports and broadcasting and pursues these passions by taking on the roles of radio DJ for the student-run radio station, WIUX, and student broadcaster for the Big Ten StudentU.

“I loved working on the FOX Sports University project. It allowed me to gain valuable experience and showcase my creative talents.”

Andrew Reising

Andrew Reising

Andrew Reising is a senior at Indiana University majoring in Sport Communication and minoring in Telecommunications. His degree will have a focus in Broadcast. Following graduation, he intends to pursue a career in sports media as a talk-radio personality.

Andrew currently works at Indiana’s student-run radio station, WIUX 99.1 FM as a Sports Talk Host and Producer where he has contributed to the station’s programming both on-air and behind the scenes. Additionally, Andrew is a blogger for IUSportCom.com where he contributes regular posts for the site. Reising is an avid consumer of all things NFL and cites the Baltimore Ravens as his favorite franchise.

“The FOX Sports U program allowed me the unique experience of being able to collaborate with my peers to create an idea and receive constructive criticism from people in the business on its potential real-world application.”

“The entire process, from our project’s conception to the final presentation, provided invaluable lessons in teamwork, time management, and critical thinking that rival any course I have taken in my college career.”

“Looking back on it, when we came up with the basic framework for our idea, I remember thinking, ‘Wow, this thing might actually have a shot.’ It certainly made winning that much more gratifying.”

 

Fall 2014 Project Description

FOX Sports and Indiana University’s Sports Communication Program partnered for the first time in the fall of 2014. Students were challenged to analyze the communications process and distribution of sports news through FOX Sports’ various platforms.

 

Professor Profile

Galen Clavio

Galen Clavio

For the past decade, Galen has worked in higher education, serving as an assistant professor at both Indiana University and the University of Miami. He is an expert in social media usage in sport, having published numerous articles on the topic. He has served as a consultant to several organizations and individuals on utilization of Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and other platforms in relationship marketing.

Prior to entering academia, Galen worked as a play-by-play broadcaster and media relations director for a number of minor league sports teams, and as a radio station sports director. He continues to be active in broadcasting today, serving as host of the “Bracket Racket” national college basketball show on HoopsHD.

Galen has developed and taught numerous classes at Indiana University, many of them focused on various elements of sport communication. This includes a class in play-by-play broadcasting, sports blogging and social media, and content management in sport websites.
