Shirley Teran

Shirley Teran

Shirley Revilla Teran is a senior at California State University, Northridge. She will graduate at the end of Spring 2013 with a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing. She loves her major because it allows her to be in tune with creativity.  Shirley is motivated by the natural sense of excitement that is accomplished when ideas become reality.  Her parents migrated to the United States from Bolivia with her three siblings in 1983.  Shirley is the first member of her family to be born in the United States. She recently finished an internship with Power Media Group Marketing Company and is currently working in retail with REI. Shirley’s goal is to pursue a career as a Marketing Manager.  When not working or studying, Shirley is usually practicing photography, enjoying the outdoors, and doing anything that will keep her busy.

Khushboo Gunwany

Khushboo Gunwany

Khushboo Gunwany is currently a graduating senior pursuing a degree in Marketing and a minor in Finance from California State University Northridge. During her time at CSUN, she has acquired several positions on campus such as VP of Marketing for Delta Sigma Pi and Director of Programs for the American Marketing Association and remains actively involved in both organizations.  She worked as a marketing assistant at the University Student Union, Inc. where she executed several publicity stunts and acquired experience in market research, product placement, distribution and social media catered to over 30,000 students. She also helped develop a 5-year campaign for the organization and assisted the Marketing team with the creation of a branding campaign for the new Student Recreation Center. She loves traveling and was fortunate enough to go to China and India for a summer, where she learned about the difference in Eastern and Western business methods, corporate culture and advertising.

Khushboo has a passion for marketing/advertising and hopes to someday obtain a career in the field.

Yvette Hernandez graduated with her bachelor’s degree in Marketing from California State University, Northridge College of Business and Economics on December 2012. Yvette aspires to pursue a career in sports marketing where she can strive to improve awareness of U.S. Sport’s teams worldwide.

Rachel Harvey

Rachel Harvey

Rachel Harvey is a graduate of California State University of Northridge with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Marketing, as well as a degree from The Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandise in Product Merchandise Development. Along with her degrees, Rachel’s other passion is non-profits and promoting social change and childcare and development in third world countries. Having worked in Haiti multiple times as well as Uganda and other countries, Rachel is the volunteer social media and marketing consultant for non-profit organization Chayah Children’s Home in Uganda. With this, Rachel’s other interests and experiences of work are in fashion, sports, and entertainment. Rachel intends to live a life she is proud of and make a difference in the worlds of others and hopefully inspires others to do so as well. In love with things she has yet to experience, places she has yet to travel, and people she has yet to meet, Rachel is excited to see what life holds.

Viktor Treptow

Viktor Treptow

Viktor was born in January 1991 in Henstedt-Ulzburg, Germany. He was raised in Norderstedt, Germany, and moved to Flensburg, Germany in March 2011. At the same time, he started to study Business Administration with specialization in marketing at FH Flensburg. For the Fall Semester 2012 Viktor decided to do a semester abroad in the United States at California State University Northridge, which gave him the chance to win for his work on this amazing project.

Samantha Arevalo

Samantha Arevalo

Originally from Louisiana, Samantha is a senior at Cal State Northridge pursing a degree in Marketing. She plans to graduate in the Spring of 2013 with hopes of working in the entertainment industry.

“This project with [FOX Sports] University gave me a great opportunity to preview what it is like to work for a real client in a real life situation.”

“[FOX Sports] University is something that I believe gave everyone in the class a one of a kind experience that can be used throughout our careers. We have all learned so much in a way that is not typical in a regular classroom setting.”

 

Fall 2012 Project Description

FOX Deportes kicked off its partnership with California State University, Northridge’s College of Business and Economics in the fall of 2012. Internet Marketing students were tasked with building a campaign around Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) – targeting the 18 – 35 (Spanish/Bilingual) US male demographic.  Students focused on expanding a primarily English-driven property in a Spanish-language environment and leveraging Latino Fighters in the UFC league.

Kristen Walker

Kristen Walker

Kristen Walker is an Associate Professor in the Department of Marketing at California State University Northridge. Her research interests include interactive marketing, social media, retail environments, brand preference, Big Data, and Internet privacy.  She is currently working on projects dealing with social networking sites and consumer privacy/protection and regularly uses client projects in her courses.  Dr. Walker designed the Interactive Marketing Minor at CSUN, encouraging a variety of majors to understand the changing role of consumer information, its permanence and power in the marketplace.  Recently her classes have partnered with Fox Creative University creating a national campaign for UFC/Fox Deportes and consulted with Buzzine, a multi-platform content network that connects artists, audience and advertising.

She began her academic career earning a Masters in Public Administration examining marketing efforts in the public sector with the US Army “Be All You Can Be” campaign.  Building on her interest in the public sector, information sharing, and interactive environments, she earned her PhD from UCLA examining the relationship between marketing, public policy and higher education. Professor Walker has advised MBA students and undergraduates as part of the Wells Fargo Small Business Institute. She was awarded first place in the 2010 Graduate Specialized Project of the Year Competition as project supervisor for the Agora Realty and Management, Inc. team.  She consults for small businesses and non-profits in a variety of industries. When she finds spare time, she is an avid fan of music and addicted to attending live concerts.
