Jenny Guffy

Jenny Guffy

Jenny Guffy is a recent graduate from The University of Alabama with a major in public relations, a specialization in sports and entertainment management and a minor in communication studies. Originally from Napa Valley, California, Jenny plans to pursue a career in public relations and digital marketing in Charlotte, North Carolina. Jenny is interested in a career focused on analytics to promote business and company growth through social media and digital marketing. Outside of the classroom, Jenny enjoys playing and coaching volleyball, cooking and promoting the family business, Guffy Family Wines.

FOX Sports University accelerated the learning curve by joining traditional classwork with real-life experience and a real-life client.

Although challenging at times, FOX Sports University pushed us to think like our client and enhanced our creativity throughout the entirety of our campaign.

I’m eternally grateful for the experience the FOX Sports University program gives to undergraduate students, and I know after this experience I can easily contribute to campaigns in an agency setting.

Alexis Hughes

Alexis Hughes

Alexis Hughes from Atmore, Alabama is a recent graduate with a bachelor’s degree in Advertising and a minor in Communication Studies. She currently works as a graphic designer at a web company providing services to healthcare facilities. She hopes to continue her career in the creative field by working at an advertising agency as a graphic designer. Alexis also enjoys photography.

Working on this campaign was one of the most rewarding experiences from my time at UA and I feel prepared to use what I learned in my future endeavors

Josh Downey

Josh Downey

Josh Downey, from San Diego, California, is a recent graduate from the University of Alabama. Josh graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in public relations, a specialization in technological and digital communication management, and a minor in business. During his undergraduate studies, Josh interned for Alchemist Branding and worked as a graphic designer for the University of Alabama School of Law. Josh is planning to return to the University of Alabama for the Master of Science in Marketing program in Fall 2018. After working in the field for a few years, Josh hopes to return to school to pursue a doctorate.

FOX Sports U is an intensive, industry-based project that gives students the opportunity to showcase their classroom knowledge and apply it to a real-world situation.

Working with FOX Sports U on the Daytona Day project was the most valuable experience of college. FOX Sports U taught me valuable lessons that I will carry with me throughout the rest of my career.

FOX Sports U teaches students to never give up and always think outside the box; both skills are essential for success in advertising and public relations.

Cameron Cartee

Cameron Cartee

Cameron Cartee is a recent, cum laude graduate from the University of Alabama with a degree in advertising and minor in computer applications. Cameron was born and raised in Birmingham, Alabama but is venturing to The Big Apple in August to pursue a career in media strategy. Cameron’s interests span from the strategy, media planning, and even creative. She one days hopes to earn her Masters of Business Administration while in New York after a few years in the work force.

FOX Sports U teaches students to think through every possible issue and find the best solution beforehand.

This campaign was so rewarding because I got to have a hand in every aspect from the planning to the implementation that I can take with me to the real world.

I gained new knowledge of Daytona Day and everything that goes into planning for an event such as this. I can carry that knowledge into my future job and understand the process.

Laney Dennis

Laney Dennis

Laney Dennis recently graduated from The University of Alabama with a major in public relations, a specialization in technology and digital communication management. Laney grew up in Johns Creek, Georgia dreaming of working in the fashion industry in New York city. Last summer that dream became a reality when she interned for Patek Philippe in New York. Laney plans to pursue a career in public relations and digital marketing for a luxury brand in New York. Aside from her career, Laney enjoys traveling, shopping and taking photos.

I am forever grateful for the experience FOX Sports University gave us. This project enabled us to cohesively create a unique campaign while working through real-world challenges.

Working with FOX Sports University on Daytona Day gave me the opportunity to be involved roles within advertising and public relations that I wouldn’t have been able to experience in any classroom.

The FOX Sports University program prepares students for their future careers while enhancing students’ creativity and collaboration.

Zach Grove

Zach Grove

Zach Grove is a recent graduate from The University of Alabama with a major in advertising and a minor in art with a specialization in digital media. Originally from Salisbury, Maryland he calls many places home due to being a military kid. During his time at UA he served as the Brand Identity Director for the Black Warrior Film Festival and was an intern for Crimson Tide Productions, a multimedia component of the University of Alabama’s Athletic Department. Since graduation Zach plans to find a job working within the creative field of advertising and plans to work his way up to an art director position. Zach’s interests include graphic design and anything creative including painting, photography and woodworking.

Fox Sports U gives you the opportunity to work hands on with a real client and apply your knowledge to create a unique campaign.

Working with Fox Sports U teaches you how to think through every aspect of putting together a successful campaign.

The experience and knowledge I gained from working with Fox Sports U is nonexchangeable and I will always be thankful for the experience this program provides

Mary Jenkins

Mary Jenkins

Mary Jenkins is a recent graduate from the University of Alabama with a degree in public relations and a specialization in technological and digital management. She grew up in Phenix City, Alabama, but plans to travel to Atlanta, Georgia, to pursue a career in public relations and digital marketing. Mary’s passions include research, consumer insights and strategy. She is a driven leader, who hopes to one day find herself in a leadership role in the world of public relations and marketing.

FOX Sports University prepared me for my career by giving me experience with a real-life client, and fostering an environment for teamwork. Each member of the team brought something valuable to the campaign.

As the leader of my team, FOX Sports University made me feel confident in my leadership and ability to execute a full-scale campaign.

I cannot thank FOX Sports University enough for this experience. They are truly building public relations professionals who are ready to impact the industry.

Kaleah McDaniel

Kaleah McDaniel

Kaleah McDaniel, from Birmingham, Alabama, is a recent grad from the University of Alabama with a degree in Public Relations with a specialization in Tech and Digital Communication. Kaleah plans to pursue a career in something that allows her to pursue her passion for the arts, nonprofit, and digital marketing. In her spare time Kaleah can be found playing viola throughout the Southeast.

FOX Sports U allowed me to use everything I learned in my coursework during college and apply it to a real life situation for a real sports network. It reignited my passion for advertising and public relations and made me even more prepared to enter the workforce.

FOX Sports U allowed me to work with amazing people who pushed me to work harder to achieve a common goal.

Without FOX Sports U I would not have had nearly as much hands on experience working with a team with a real client like FOX Sports.

Courtney Small

Courtney Small

Courtney Small was a part of the winning NASCOM team. She is a recent graduate of the University of Alabama. Right now she is going on several job interviews and hopes to get a job in New York City soon. She is interested in the sports and entertainment industry and would LOVE to get a job in that field. Aside from the rush that public relations brings to her life, Courtney enjoys rooting for the New York Giants, the New York Yankees, and the Alabama Crimson Tide football team. Also, she enjoys spending time with friends and hanging out with her family.

I love that I was able to get real life, hands on experience through FOX Sports University program.

Working with FOX sports has helped me realize what field of Public Relations I am interested in.

I am so thankful that I was a apart of a group that I genuinely enjoyed being with. NASCOM, WE DID IT!!

Lauren Aschbacher

Lauren Aschbacher

Lauren Aschbacher is from Houston, Texas. She recently graduated from The University of Alabama with a Bachelor’s Degree in Communication and Information Sciences. She majored in public relations and has a minor in computing technology and applications. Previously, she worked as a public relations and marketing intern in Houston. Lauren plans on pursuing a career in marketing, public relations or advertising.

The FOX Sports U program was my most competitive and rewarding class to end my senior year. The class was a great way to transition us from a school atmosphere to the work place. The experience I gained from this campaign has prepared me for my future career in the marketing and public relations field.

Mackenzie Summar

Mackenzie Summar

Mackenzie Summar is a recent graduate from The University of Alabama with a double major in public relations and political science, and a minor in international relations. There, Mackenzie worked hard getting involved with as many organizations as possible as well as bettering her knowledge of outside culture by working abroad. Mackenzie is currently working for a sales and manufacturing firm while hoping to still use her foreign relations skills. Mackenzie’s long-term plans include working internationally or involvement in political foreign policy.

I love that FOX Sports U allowed me to have a true experience to create material that would help me in the real-world.

I enjoyed this experience mainly because it allowed me to put skills I had learned over the years to the test and create a real campaign with a group of individuals so I would know what to expect in my future.

FOX Sports U pushes students to compete to create something real so we can benefit our futures.

 

Spring 2018 Project Description

The Spring 2018 University of Alabama FOX Sports U students were given the challenge of creating a 360-degree marketing campaign for Daytona Day, NASCAR’s equivalent of Super Bowl Sunday. Through the use of creative strategies and tactics, the goal of the campaign was centered around increasing awareness, engagement, and excitement around Daytona Day for both NASCAR fans and non-NASCAR fans alike.

 

Professor Profile

Randall Huffaker

Randall Huffaker

Randall Huffaker joined the Advertising and Public Relations faculty in August 2012 as an instructor. He teaches courses ranging from campaigns, AdTeam, management, sports marketing, social media & digital marketing, art direction, portfolio development. Huffaker has partnered with clients including NASCAR, Fox Sports and the Football Bowl Association, creating opportunities for students to develop real-world problem solving skills through experiential learning opportunities.

Huffaker has more than 20 years of experience in advertising and more than 15 in digital marketing. He recognized as emerging technologies took hold, social and digital media would change consumer behavior. As a result, in 2009 Huffaker opened his own agency, Alchemist, which focuses on brand development and digital marketing. He has worked with clients ranging from local to international with the goal of developing insightful engaging experiences. Huffaker has worked with clients from financial institutions, hospitals, nonprofit organizations and a host of others. He continues to serve as consultant for a number of midsized agencies around the region, developing effective digital strategies to meet marketing objectives.
