Fall 2012 Winners - Follow the Journey

Alex Pastrana

Alex Pastrana

Alex is originally from El Paso, Texas and yes he’s a typical Texas boy. Meaning he enjoys country music, has a farmers tan, owns cowboy boots and a matching hat, and most importantly he loves the Dallas Cowboys. He graduated from Arizona State University in Fall 2012 with a degree in Journalism and Mass Communication with a specialization in Broadcast Journalism and a minor in Film Production. Although he isn’t exactly sure where he wants to end up he knows he either wants to be in production or some position in the sporting world, but he won’t be picky to start.

“[FOX Sports] U is one of the best and most helpful experiences a college class can give you.”

“[FOX Sports] U gives you a chance to see how the real world works and puts students in the driver’s seat.”

“I definitely recommend [FOX Sports] University to anyone who likes a challenge.”

“Creating a marketing campaign for Fox Sports Next was challenging and frustrating but also very fun! It’s also an added bonus if you win! #FollowTheJourney.”

Fall 2012 Project Description

The students at Arizona State University’s Walker Cronkite School of Journalism teamed up with FOXSports.com for their first national campaign. The property, Scout.com, was rebranded as FOX Sports NEXT and focuses on high school and college sports. The site delivers exclusive content and news to sports fans. Students focused on increasing brand awareness and subscriptions with an eye on both the national and local market. Campaigns were comprehensive, including elements from social media, TV, out of home and digital marketing initiatives to target both insiders and fans. The winning campaign launched in late 2012 and continued in 2013.
